3 months ago, I was fortunate enough to have a great new spot open across from my office. Roll Over is serving up FAT kimbap just off Union square, and I’m loving it.
I’ve tried the spicy pork, tuna mayo, and beef. The pork is definitely my favorite, largely because I don’t love too much sweet egg in my kimbap (it’s not like they overdo it, more like I simply prefer other fixins…it’s a me problem) and because I thought there could have been a touch more mayo in the tuna mayo. Speaking of mayo, I highly recommend getting one for dipping. I’ve also tried the tteokbokki and thought they hit the perfect balance between the rice cakes and fish cakes and the sauce was kinda addictive.
The packaging is nice and portable, so it’s actually ideal to bring to the park in Union Square for a picnic lunch. It’s not a cheap meal – it’s more than 4x the cost of the frozen ones I pick up at Hmart – but it’s also much larger than your standard kimbap (I had a tough time with the one bite rule) and made with high quality ingredients. I’ll be back…I mean, I already have been. Several times.
